Our History
The German American Club started in 1965 by German immigrants who wanted to play soccer and have a beer or two. This was the support system for the Germans in the days before the internet. We had social events and fund raisers to keep our German traditions alive. We raised our children and helped each other through many hard times. At the Mountain Creek Ranch in Valley View, owned by our member Werner Hermus, we had a band from Germany "The Munich Evergreens" who came to the Addison Oktoberfest, and always played for us at the Ranch. Werner also initiated and planned our trips within the US and Europe. We also had our famous $10 gambling trips to Shreveport.
This past has formed our relationships today.
What are we now
We continue to keep our traditions alive with the events we plan, Karneval am Rhein, Schnitzelfest, Christmas Party. Our events mostly take place at Brookhaven Country Club. We go to horse races, have Brunch in the spring and we meet every third Friday at Henk's Deli. We also meet in smaller groups for Kaffeeklatsch.
We support German organizations in the DFW metroplex with donations, grants and tuition assistance for members that are students of the German language schools attendance. A lot of the members of those organizations are now members of the GAC.
